Mercy
Mercy is a gentle and affectionate puppy who came to us from the city shelter just days ago. He is suffering from a severe case of demodectic mange, which is a skin disease caused by mites.
In Mercy’s case, his condition was left untreated for so long that it has spread to his entire body, leaving his skin hairless, flaky and scab-ridden. He has also developed a secondary bacterial infection on his skin, which causing intensive itching and soreness. Animal Haven is doing everything possible to ensure that Mercy’s recovery is as quick and comfortable as possible and with the proper treatment, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Husky/ GermanSheppard Mix Red Mange/Demodectic mange Promeris HELP!?
March 1, my Loki was diagnosted with Red mange, We tried one kind of treatment, I am not sure of the name, then we decided to try promeris after that treatment didn’t work, So now we have given him 3 treatments of promeris, one dose every two weeks. So he has been under the promeris treatment for 5 weeks, and he is only getting worse, and he is losing his hair on his face, and legs. Does anyone know how long it takes promeris to work, or any other treatment options we could look into. I am thinking about changing vets…
Personally, I would definately go to another vet and get a second opinion. Poor thing! Best of luck with this!

Make sure your dog is on a premium diet (high meat content, no by-products, no corn, no wheat, no soy) and give immune boosting supplements. Most dogs have these mites. It is only when the immune system is compromised that they “take over” and cause visible skin problems. With a case of Demodex in an adult dog there is the possibility that there is a potentially serious underlying disease going on that has compromised the dog’s immune integrity. Such afflictions as cancer, Hypothyroidism, Systemic Fungal Disease, adrenal gland diseases and even exposure to prescribed cortisone medications can allow previously innocuous resident mites to reproduce rapidly and cause visible skin disease. These cases can be difficult to cure unless the underlying stressor is resolved successfully.
English Bulldog with Demodex? Please help with treatments?
My English bulldog was found to have demodectic mange. He is 10months old. He has been taking Amoxicillin for about 10 days now. I have not seen too much improvement on his skin.Does anyone know how long it will take for it to clear up and will he start to grow hair again in the spots he lost it?And is there anything else I can do along with him taking the antibiotic? I just want him to be healthy and happy, and do not want to use anything to make his situation worse. Thank you!
note to add:They did not give him anything else. I was going to look for another shampoo besides the ones I have that are medicated. I switched him last week from Purina to Iams Because my husband had been feeding him purina before I moved down. I thought Iams would be better, but maybe not,for his condition?
Amoxicillin will not cure demodex – all it does is prevent a skin infection from the scratching. I’m kind of worried about a vet who suggests only that. Demodex is present on all dogs, but in certain dogs, it gets out of control, thus the hair loss and redness. It can be a sign of a weakened immune system, underlying disease, or stress. With my dog, it was stress.
If you want to get rid of the mites, you have a couple of choices. You can get ivermectic injections every few weeks. You can have him dipped at the vet every week. You can use Promeris, a topical flea and tick treatment that kills mites too. The year old pointed I adopted had demodex. We were using a combination of injections and dips and seeing very little progress. The dips were hard on him. BTW, ivermectin is not safe for use in some dogs, like collies. Anyway, our vet recommended Promeris. She had read a lot of info about it and seen the studies, and was impressed with the results. Even though they don’t carry it, she wanted us to try it, which meant they weren’t going to make money off of us anymore. The dips were pretty expensive and they had told us we might need as many as 12 originally. We ordered Promeris online and it has worked like a charm. I am beyond impressed with the results.

Need Advice!!!?
Does anyone know of a natural/homeopathic remedy for demodectic mange? I was at my vets office today and the treatments offered using chemical dips and high doses of meds made me nervous. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Yes. Your dog needs homeopathic constitutional care, available only through someone trained and certified in homeopathy (it’s pretty deep and comprehensive). As with people, the homeopath / homeopathic vet will take your dog’s “case,” spending an hour or two, then research and find a remedy to stimulate healing. The biggest vet-trained website is http://www.drpitcairn.com
Any homeopath certified (http://www.homeopathicdirectory.com) who treats animals will be able to help. It’s understanding homeopathy’s philosophy, not veterinary skill in this case. Find someone nearby who is certified, check credentials and training, and that their practice is 100% homeopathic for best results.
Yeah, avoid the traditional treatments. Homeopathy’s at once more gentle and effective.
